Hello, everyone! It’s hard to believe it’s already December.
This past week went from rather productive writing-wise to rather productive in other areas once NaNo officially ended for the year. If finished NaNo sufficiently strongly, ending the month at 73,236 words. I have still been writing every day, but it is significantly slower than the 1,667 pace that works well for NaNo. For anyone who is interested in a more comprehensive post than what comes in these weekly updates, you an read my Review of NaNoWriMo 2021. Overall, I would call the month a fantastic success, and I’m looking forward to seeing how things progress from here.
So, I mentioned my writing pace has slowed down over the last few days. It has, but part of what I did was finish the chapter I had been working on when NaNo ended. The other part of the week involved starting the chapter directly before what I’ve been considering the end section of the book. I have been looking forward to the chapter after my current one for quite some time. I’m not sure when I expect to finish this book, but I am thinking it should be sometime this month, at the very least. In preparation for that, I’ve also been pondering how things should go for Books 11 and 12 as the last two books of the series. There are definitely some exciting things happening in the near future, not the least of which is switching to editing mode after the series is drafted.
As for reading, I’ve been making my way through Diane Duane’s book The Romulan Way, sequel to My Enemy, My Ally that I mentioned last week. So far it’s interesting. There are certain storytelling elements that have been a little frustrating, but overall, I’m enjoying it. And to be fair, the only frustrating part is that the chapters alternate between ‘current day’ and ‘the founding/history of the Romulans.’ The history element to the story is actually really interesting, but I was definitely not fond of the way in interrupted the ‘things actually happening in current time’ in the other half of the book. That said, I think things are starting to come together.
As ambitious as my plan for this past week was with regard to finishing Book 10, I’m going a slightly different route this week. I’d like to make progress with Book 10, and I would like to plot a bit more of the remainder of the series. I’ve got about two-and-a-half books to go, and I’m definitely excited to see how all of this goes. Other than that, I will continue reading. I suspect I will finish The Romulan Way shortly, and then I will shift to Mercedes Lackey’s The Fire Rose. I have also been trying to draw a bit more, over the last few days, so I think I might try to find a project I can do with that to brush up my skills a bit.
Also, as a final note, one of my projects this past week was to get things set up for a newsletter, of sorts. Currently, the emails will contain posts that I make to my blog. Once things progress a bit further along my publishing journey, I intend to send occasional newsletters beyond that. If you would like to receive emails with the new content I am posting, you can sign up with the form below.
That seems to be everything for now. Thanks for reading!
