Update: Week of 30 Aug 2021

Hi, everyone! I hope you have all had a good week (and a good August, for that matter)!

My week went fairly well. I certainly made progress on a few things. I think those things mostly fall into the category of writing, reading, and preparing for DragonCon this week, but I’ve fairly pleased with how things are going. For the most part, I expect a good bit of this week to involve finishing preparations for DragonCon, and then actually participating in DragonCon.

As for this past week, I am making steady progress typing up the initial section of my side novel from NaNo 2012. I’m thinking I should be able to get it typed up before DragonCon gets into full-swing. Other than that, I am working my way through the first draft of Book 9, which I was working on in July. I am also loosely finalizing the outline/timeline for the final arc of the current series (namely, Books 10, 11, and 12). My current plan is that over the course of September and October I will finish the draft of Book 9, and finish plotting the final arc in time to start working on Book 10 for NaNo 2021 (this November).

I did get a good bit of reading done. I finished Brian Jacques’ Redwall, read Volume 43 of the Bleach manga by Tite Kubo, and I’ve read about a third of Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. I’ve seen the movie version of Ready Player One a couple times, and I liked it well enough, so I figured I’d give the book a shot, particularly since there is a sequel to the book. So far, it’s pretty good. The movie definitely streamlined a few things, but it is interesting seeing some of the things that get a bit more/different attention in the book.

For this upcoming week, I’m planning to finish typing the portion of the side story I have left. I’d also like to do a bit more with Book 9. Other than that, I plan to finish Ready Player One, and to start Mercedes Lackey’s The Elemental Masters series, with The Serpent’s Shadow. I’m also going to continue reading DK Holmberg’s The Elements Bond. Beyond those tasks for writing and reading, most of this week is probably going to go toward DragonCon in some fashion. I have gone through the schedule and picked out some things that look interesting, though we are still waiting for the final schedule. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing a few authors I like, and checking out what the armory folks have prepared. With a bit of luck, the Con will provide some good writing advice and possibly some inspiration for additional story ideas. At the very least, I know the Con will be a good time, all around.

I think that’s everything I have for this update. Thanks for reading!

~ Theresa
