Hello, everyone! It’s hard to believe we are at the end of November. The month has just flown by. For any of you who are participating in NaNoWriMo and Huevember, I hope the month is going well for you and your creative endeavors. The finish line is in sight!
This week was just as busy project-wise as the last few weeks, but there was also a holiday thrown in (Thanksgiving). That said, I still managed to keep up with my assorted creative endeavors, and I was able to visit with family. All things considered, I can’t complain.
This final full week of NaNo went rather well. I actually made it to 50,000 words two days ago (26 Nov), and things are still going strong. I’m currently at 52,000 words and the month isn’t over for another two days after this posting. I was hoping to finish the first draft of Book 11 this month. I might still, but at this point, it looks like it is going to be longer than the 75,000 words I was estimating. I’m not sure by how much, but hopefully I will get a better idea over the next few days. As it is, the draft just hit 70,000 words, and I still have a bit to go. Overall, I am really pleased with the progress I’m making. (I am just also thinking that this close to the end of the series, I have underestimated how long it would take to tie up the many plot threads.)
Huevember has been going well so far. I think the assorted prep work I did in October really came in handy as far as reducing some of the mental load (things like having to plan my subjects, and figure out poses and such). There are certain things I would like to do differently with several of the paintings, but limiting the amount of time I spend is really the only way I am able to do both Huevember and NaNoWriMo as well as I have been. I am still planning to do a few group shots of several of my solo characters from Huevember, though I’m not sure when I will get to those. At the moment, I am down to my final three paintings, which is definitely exciting. I do intend to post them on my website, but at least for now, I have decided that will have to wait until after my month of creative challenges is over. Hopefully I will be able to get them posted in the first few weeks of December. If you would like to see my Huevember paintings as they are being finished, you can find them on my Twitter by clicking this link.
Reading has really been a bit light this month, given everything else I’ve been doing. I am slowly making progress on Michael R. Miller’s Unbound, book 2 of his Songs of Chaos series. I am enjoying it so far, and I am wondering if some of my early predictions will be right. I am still early in the book, but so far it’s good. I’ve heard that this book introduces new types of dragons (on top of the five, I believe, in the first book), so I’m curious to see what happens with them. I suspect I will be spending a good bit of time after November catching up on some of the reading I haven’t been doing.
This week will likely be busy, but for different reasons than the previous weeks. The first half of the week, I will still be writing Book 11 for NaNo (maybe Book 12, if I’m lucky) and painting for Huevember. I still need to plot more of Book 12, and I plan to read more of Unbound, both of which will likely occur starting 1 Dec. The last half of the week will likely be spent taking care of a lot of the things I’ve been putting off for the past month or so. Thankfully, there aren’t many of those tasks, but there are a few things I would like to make some progress with.
If you would like to add me as a writing buddy on the NaNoWriMo website, my name on the site is fantasy_writer42, and you can find my profile here.
That seems to be everything for this update! As always, thanks for reading!
