Greetings! I hope all of you are doing well, and I hope you’re having a good December.
I mentioned in last week’s update that this week would likely be tricky. As it turns out, this past week was indeed rather light for me, mostly because of assorted holiday stuff. That said, I got a bit of writing and art done, so I can’t complain too much. I also got to see some family people for a pre-Christmas gathering. Good times were had.
Book 11 is progressing nicely, I’ve finished the chapter I’ve been working on since the end of NaNoWriMo last month, and I’ve started the next chapter. I’ve also been refining some of the plot stuff for what comes at the end of this book, which is exciting. On top of that, I’ve gotten a bit of outlining/timelining done for the end of Book 12. I know that still leaves a good bit of Book 12 that still needs plotted. However, it feels good to be making some progress on that front. Besides, by knowing how it ends, I will be able to use that to shape things earlier in the book.
My art for this week has been working on coloring a phoenix that I sketched last week. I still have a bit to do, but it’s coming along well. I am finding the shift in approach a little tricky at times. Most of my recent art has been quick paintings to build up something of a habit of creating every day (or at least most days, if I can). Now, I’m trying to move away from the speed approach to taking my time and trying to build and refine some of my art skills. I have caught myself frequently having to remind myself to slow down and take my time. I am enjoying this process, though. It is hard to complain whenever I get to create something.
Reading for this week has been slowly working my way through Brandon Sanderson’s Oathbringer. With the new books he has coming out in 2023, I’d like to catch up a bit more on the Cosmere. So far, I have read most of the Cosmere. I have two books left to read in The Stormlight Archive (including Oathbringer) and the (now four) Mistborn Era 2 books. There are also a few short pieces I still need to read, but overall, I think things are going well.
This upcoming week should be fairly good as far as creative endeavors. I’m planning to continue refining my daily/weekly schedule into something fairly maintainable. Other than that, I intend to continue drafting Book 11 and outlining/timelining Book 12. I’d also like to finish my phoenix painting if I can. I’m also hoping to continue reading Oathbringer. It would be nice to put a decent dent in it this week. I do have a bit of holiday stuff coming up, but this week should be fairly quiet. I also have a bit of a backlog of posts to draft and post, but I’m hoping to get a bit more time to do that this week.
NaNoWriMo is now over (although there is Camp NaNoWriMo coming up in April). Feel free to add me as a writing buddy on the NaNoWriMo website. My name on the site is fantasy_writer42, and you can find my profile here.
I think that is everything for this update! Thanks for reading!
