Update: Week of 13 Jun 2022

Hello, everyone! I hope this finds y’all well!

My week went pretty well. Writing and plotting are coming along nicely. Reading kind of shifted away from my recent pattern lately, but it’s been a nice change. On top of that, after doing the digital painting I mentioned in last week’s update, I got the idea to paint one of the places from my books… that apparently turned out to be a bit more ambitious than I expected (which was already a fairly high expectation), so I haven’t made much progress. I did do a lot of research into perspective drawing, and I started creating a rough map of the surrounding area so that I would know what would show up in the background of the painting… (maybe I’ll get to actually start painting this week…)

Book 11 is definitely progressing, if a bit slower than I would prefer. I’ve been maintaining my streak of “writing something everyday,” even if some of those days only amount to a few words. Other than that, a lot of my recent focus has been plotting and trying to figure out some of the more intricate world and plot details that haven’t really shown up prior to now. I am making progress on that front, and I’m slowly getting the outline/timeline figured out. On top of that plotting, I am also pleased with the assorted mapping I’ve been doing for drawing purposes. While it may not specifically impact where I currently am in the series, I am hardly going to turn down inspiration when it tries to bring my world to life, even in small ways.

Reading this week started with Brandon Sanderson’s Oathbringer, though I’m only about a quarter of the way through that one. I’ve actually spent the better part of this week reading the third book of Mercedes Lackey’s The Elemental Masters series. This book is called Phoenix and Ashes, and it’s based on Cinderella and set during World War I. Overall, I am enjoying it, though I’m not sure it’s the best fit for my current mood.

My plan for this week is probably fairly similar to my plan for this past week. I’m planning to continue drafting Book 11. I suspect I will try to put a decent dent in the plotting and try to get a bit more drafted than I have been of late. After all, there is a July session of Camp NaNoWriMo coming up, and I’d like to be in a decent position for that. For reading, I will likely finish Phoenix and Ashes, and then I’m thinking I’ll return to Oathbringer, but something else might catch my eye in the meantime. Other than that, I get the feeling I will continue working on assorted mapping and such for the painting I’d like to do. I might also try to do a bit of mapping and floorplanning for other common locations that show up in my series. I’ve been meaning to do more with that, and figured it could wait until I was in the mood to work on them.

I think that’s everything for this update! Thanks for reading!

~ Theresa
