Update: Week of 10 Jan 2022

Greetings! I hope this finds y’all well.

For some reason, this past week seemed to fly by for me. I did get a good bit of writing done, and I’ve gotten quite a bit of reading done. I’ve also been trying out some new knitting patterns. All things considered, everything seems to be going fairly well, and I’m looking forward to seeing what this week brings.

As I mentioned in last week’s post, I liked the chapter I was working on, which was getting a bit long. Well, at the moment, the chapter is still rather long, but it is also drafted, so yay! I suspect I will try to split it in one or two places, depending on how the flow of the chapter looks once I go over it. I won’t be doing any editing yet since I’m saving that for after drafting, but it shouldn’t take too long to find the places I’m already thinking of for the chapter breaks. Beyond that, I’ve got about five chapters to go for the rest of the draft. I’m really pleased with how the draft of Book 10 is going. Over this past week, I’ve also made a good bit of progress with plotting the first part of Book 11.

For reading, I’m still working my way through Mercedes Lackey’s The Fire Rose. Additionally, I read Betrayal, the second book of The Keeper Chronicles by Ben Meeks. As with most things, there are certain elements that I’m pleased with and other elements that I am less pleased with. Overall, it was pretty good, and I am curious to see how the series goes. Other than that, I’ve also started reading The Queen’s Poisoner, which is the first book in The Kingfountain Series by Jeff Wheeler. I haven’t gotten too far with that one, but thanks to reading The Harbinger Series a little while ago, I’ve already met one of the characters in this series. It’s also nice that the tone of this series seems to be more fantastical (and a bit less Dickensian) than The Harbinger Series.

As for the new knitting pattern I’m trying out, it is linen stitch, so it’s supposed to kind of mimic the look of woven material. Since I’m knitting this scarf length-wise (my first time doing this), each row is really long, so I haven’t been able to see how the pattern looks with what I’m doing. That said, it should turn out pretty spiffy with more vertical stripes. I will say, I’m still trying to decide how I feel about the longer rows but fewer of them. I’m definitely used to knitting the width of the scarf, so shorter rows, and then i just stop when the scarf is as long as I want it. I haven’t decided if I’m going to continue this scarf (since I’m still fairly early on). I might see about finding another pattern to try the linen stitch…

The plan for this week is similar to last week. I’ll continue drafting Book 10 and plotting Book 11. If I get a chance, I’ll see if I can do a bit more plotting for Book 12, too. I also plan to read The Fire Rose and The Queen’s Poisoner. I’m not sure how far I’ll get with those two, but it should be a pretty good time. I suspect I will also be doing something with knitting, although we’ll see how things go with that.

I think that’s everything for this update. Thanks for reading!

~ Theresa
