Thoughts from Camp NaNoWriMo and the time since we last spoke…

So, this is the first year I have successfully completed Camp NaNoWriMo, and I did so with about a week remaining. Something of a creature of habit, I stuck with the goal of 50,000 words in 30 days, and I finished on 24 April (a personal record even for regular NaNo).

I did have some additional motivation. I had guests come in for a couple days, and I knew I would be getting Lasik at the end of the month (and I wasn’t sure what recovery would look like for that)… and I had a book that really, really wanted to be written.

As it is, I gave a hard push in the days leading up to the day of my surgery (successfully hitting my word count goal, though I still have a bit of the story to go). I have worked on the draft in the days since then, but at a much slower pace. My current plan is to see what I could do to finish this first draft of book four by tomorrow (30 Apr). I think it should be doable, particularly since the actual end of the book isn’t something I’ve specifically plotted, though I know where it ends.

Most of the month of April has flown by, between Lasik prep/research, and trying to draft a novel in less than a month. The Lasik seems to have been successful, and the Camp NaNo seems to have also been successful. Beyond that, my other half has been kind enough to read books outloud while I knit (working on a blanket that is slowly coming to an end). During the month, we finished Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson, and we started Magician: Master by Raymond E. Feist. I also saw “Avengers: Endgame” this weekend. I won’t be giving any spoilers, but if you want to chat about the movie, feel free to hit me up (whether in the comments, social media, or email). 🙂

Plan for the upcoming week involves finishing the draft of book 4, putting a good dent in the remaining revisions of book 1, and also making some progress on a book I’ve been reading: Shroud of Eternity, by Terry Goodkind. The recent plan has been reading one chapter a day.

What progress have you made in the realms of writing, reading, or other entertainment in April? What do you hope to accomplish in May? I would love to hear from you!
