Update: Week of 11 Apr 2022

Greetings from about halfway through April! I hope the month is treating y’all well!

This past week has been pretty amazing. This is the first update of this Camp NaNoWriMo where all seven days were part of Camp, and I have made some fantastic writing progress. I have also been reading quite a bit this week. So all things considered, I’m very pleased.

In last week’s update, I mentioned that I was working on the penultimate chapter of Book 10. Well, I have now finished the first draft of Book 10! And I will be starting the first draft of Book 11 later today! On top of that, I am also on track to reach my goal of 50,000 words for Camp NaNo this month. As I write this, I am at almost 18,000 words. I also have a pretty decent start to my outline/timeline for Book 11, so I should be able to keep things rolling along nicely. Having a daily word count I’m aiming for definitely helps me get words on the page, which is useful when I find myself so excited about what’s happening in the books that I just spend a lot of time thinking about them. That external goal and deadline that Camp provides definitely comes in handy to keep things moving.

My reading pace has definitely increased over the last week. The reading has all been assorted pieces in Brandon Sanderson’s Skyward series along with the three “Skyward Flight” novellas he wrote with Janci Patterson. I finished reading Starsight, the second book. After that, I read two novellas, Sunreach and ReDawn, which fit between the second and third novels and are told from the points-of-view of two other characters in the series. I read a short story/novella called Defending Elysium, which takes place way in the past for the series, though it is set in the somewhat distant future from where we currently are. Now I am reading the third book in the Skyward series: Cytonic. I am most of the way through that one, and I am definitely enjoying this series. There is also another novella, Evershore, that is meant to be read after Cytonic, so I have that to look forward to, as well as a fourth book that probably won’t be out until some time in 2023.

For this week, I will be starting Book 11! I am definitely excited to see how it will unfold. I will also be working on the outline/timeline as needed to get things flowing as smoothly as I can. Other than that, I plan to finish reading Cytonic and read the final novella, Evershore. I’m not sure how much time will be left after those, but I suspect I will go after The Well of Ascension, the second Mistborn book, with whatever time is left.

If anyone is interested in adding me as a writing buddy for Camp NaNo, my username is fantasy_writer42, and my profile can be found here.

I think that’s everything for now! Thanks for reading!
