Update: Week of 4 Apr 2022

Hello, everyone! I hope your April is going well!

I am definitely pleased with how this past week has gone. Writing is going well, and I’ve had a great start to April’s session of Camp NaNoWriMo. I’ve also done a good bit of reading, which is always nice. I’ve also managed to get a little bit of knitting done, particularly since it works well as a background activity while focusing on something else.

I am now working on the current penultimate chapter of Book 10. So far it is going really well. Camp NaNo has provided a bit of external motivation to get words down on the page a bit quicker. In addition to the work on the current book, I also took a bit of time at the start of Camp NaNo to revisit the last chapter of Book 9 so that I could insert a scene between a couple of my characters. In doing so, I have now also officially included a few lines of one of my FAWM songs from February. I am definitely pleased with getting that scene put in, and I didn’t want to wait another month to get that written. Other than that, I have done a bit more plotting for Book 11, though I have a bit more that I plan to take care of before I start working on that draft.

As for reading, I actually have now finished reading Fruits Basket, and I’m a little surprise how quickly the last half of the series went. I definitely enjoyed it, and I do still have quite a few of the special features, character sketches, etc. to look through at some point. I wouldn’t mind finding more stuff like that, since it’s a bit different from most of the manga/anime I’m used to seeing. Other than that, I have also started reading Brandon Sanderson’s Skyward series. I actually read the first book, Skyward, in about a day. I’m currently about halfway through the second book in the series, Starsight. So far, I’m enjoying that series. And I know there is a set of three novellas that supplement the main series, so I’m hoping to start reading those sometime this week, after I finish Starsight.

For this upcoming week, I plan to continue drafting Book 10, moving on to Book 11 after. My goal for Camp NaNo is to write 50,000 words. At the moment, I am on track with a little over 5,000 words. The only thing I’m not sure about is how many words I have left for this draft of the current book. I’m also planning on doing at least enough plotting that I will be able to keep the writing going smoothly. Otherwise, I plan to finish Starsight, and read the novellas that go between Starsight and Cytonic, the third book of the series. If I end up finishing those, I have Cytonic, and also the second Mistborn book, The Well of Ascension, as my next in line books… Or I might find myself going a different path this week. I’ve noticed my reading moods tend to vary a bit.

If anyone is interested in adding me as a writing buddy for Camp NaNo, my username is fantasy_writer42, and my profile can be found here.

That’s everything I’ve got for this this update! Thanks for reading!

~ Theresa
