Greetings as we come to the last week of February 2022!
This past week has been really good. I managed to figure out some big things for my books, and I am making progress toward completing February Album Writing Month (FAWM).
I finished the chapter of Book 10 that I was working on last week, and I’ve started the next chapter. As such, I have four chapters–including the current one–left in this draft, and I am really looking forward to some of the things that are yet to come. Not to mention, I’m excited to start Book 11, as well. I’ve definitely made a bit of progress figuring out some of what’s happening in that book. I still need to flesh out the outline/timeline a bit more for Book 11, but I’m thinking that should come together rather nicely. I’ve also been doing some lovely worldbuilding with the help of FAWM. This past week, as I pondered new songs, I actually figured out a way to connect a few pieces of story and I figured out how to reconcile a few things with one of my characters.
As for reading, I made some good progress through Jeff Wheeler’s The Queen’s Poisoner. As a matter of fact, I actually encountered the titular character, which is always fun. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where this book goes. I also picked up Vol 1 of the “Collector’s Edition” of Fruits Basket. (The Collector’s Edition Vol 1 seems to be the first two volumes of the original run, which is out of print.) I’ve been kind of curious about Fruits Basket for a while, though most of what I knew about it was that it centers around a family that is cursed–rather cutely, it turns out–to turn into the animals of the Chinese Zodiac when hugged by a member of the opposite sex. I am always intrigued by shapeshifting characters. In any case, I decided now was as good a time as any to try it out. I’m about halfway through this volume, and so far I am enjoying it. I suspect I will probably pick up the others at some point.
My first attempt at FAWM seems to be going well. I started out decently ahead, though I have lost that lead. Currently, I am almost on track for writing fourteen songs this month. I wrote one song this week, bringing my total to nine songs, and I’ve got ideas for several others. I’m hoping to get at least a couple of those written in the next day or so to provide a bit of a buffer for the rest of the month. Incidentally, I am rather pleased with the way the songs are helping me figure out certain character details that make them feel a bit more real. It’s something I hadn’t really thought would happen (prior to this month).
For this week, I plan to draft more of Book 10. Finishing the draft would probably be ideal, but I would also accept finishing the current chapter. I’m also planning to plot more of Book 11. With regard to reading, I’d like to finish my current volume of Fruits Basket, and I’d like to finish The Queen’s Poisoner. Other than those, I do still have Agatha Christie’s The ABC Murders and Diane Duane’s Honor Blade that I am slowly working my way through. Beyond that, I am planning on writing approximately five more songs for FAWM, particularly since the last day of FAWM 2022 will be the day of my next weekly update. Hopefully, I’ll have some good FAWM news to share with y’all.
For more information about FAWM, you can check FAWM.org. My username is fantasywriter42, and my profile can be found here. I don’t currently have my songs available to be read, but you can see what other people have managed to come up with during the month.
That’s all for this update! Thanks for reading!
~ Theresa
