Greetings! I hope this finds y’all well.
I have made some good progress this week on a few different projects. That said, they are the same projects I mentioned in last week’s update. I am now a bit further along, though, which is nice.
My writing time this week was mostly split between drafting Book 10 and plotting Book 11. I am pleased with how things are shaping up with the end of Book 10, and I am looking forward to the upcoming chapters in my current draft. I don’t have many before I reach the end of the book. My intention is to separate several of my longer chapters in this end section into different chapters. I figure I will reassess that when I get to the end of the book. I’m also really excited for some of the stuff coming up in Book 11. As the penultimate book of the series, there are quite a few things planned to come together in that book. I’m also working to flesh out some additional story ideas. Some of those are for other series; some of them are for assorted prequel and side stories for the current series.
I’ve finished reading Mercedes Lackey’s The Fire Rose. Overall, I am pleased with how it went, and I am definitely intrigued by the differences between The Fire Rose, and the first two books (the ones I’ve currently read) of The Elemental Masters series proper. I suspect some of the differences are due to the delay between the publication of The Fire Rose and The Serpent’s Shadow. At the very least, I don’t know how much of the series was actually figured out before the change in publishers between those two books. I’m also about halfway through Diane Duane’s Swordhunt, which is the third book in her Rihannsu series, which is more or less set after Star Trek: The Original Series, and deals with the crew of the Enterprise and their interactions with a particular group of Romulans. It is interesting to see what she created, since her books came out before Star Trek: The Next Generation, which went a different direction with the Romulans.
Other than those, I am still working on my greyscale-and-rainbow fisherman’s rib scarf. Due to how many color changes I have, I’ve actually started weaving in the ends. I’ve woven in the ends for about five stripes, and I’m currently knitting the tenth stripe. I suspect I will eventually get to a point where I have more or less caught up. It will be nice not having to sift through the ends as I try to find my current yarn.
For this week, I’m hoping to put a good dent in the remaining portion of Book 10. I also want to plot a bit more of Book 11 (and possibly Book 12). I do have a bit of an outline/timeline for those two, but I definitely have spots that could use some fleshing out before I start drafting. Other than that, I plan to finish reading Swordhunt and then resume reading Jeff Wheeler’s The Queen’s Poisoner. And, of course, I have my current scarf that is coming along.
That’s everything I have for now. As always, thanks for reading!
