Hello! It’s hard to believe it’s the end of September already.
I have managed to get quite a few things done. I have made a bit of progress on the current book, and I’ve made some progress on the upcoming final arc of the series. This week was not as reading heavy as some previous weeks, but I’ve been able to make a bit of progress (and even revisit an old favorite). And, I even got to watch The Nightmare Before Christmas, which is always fun… I was debating holding off until October, but I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t had several of the songs running through my head this whole month).
After spending the last few weeks revisiting my NaNo 2012 side story, I returned to drafting Book 9 this week. I did finish the chapter I had been working on, and in doing so, I was able to get myself on track with regard to where I’m going with the book (and how to incorporate several plot elements that have been refined in recent weeks). I’m definitely excited for where things are going, though it has come to my attention that there are several things I need to work into this book so that things are set for the final arc. I suspect it will go well once I get into that part. Other than that, I’ve been able to refine my outline/timeline for Book 9 and also add a few more events to my outline/timeline for Book 10.
For this week, I finished Jeff Wheeler’s Iron Garland (Book 3 of The Harbinger Series), and I’ve started the sequel, Prism Cloud. I’m about a third of the way through that one. I have taken a little bit of a break from that one during the latter part of this week, mostly due to the amount of political intrigue (and other such things). An occasional appearance isn’t bad, but binge reading a series that increasingly involves political intrigue and scheming characters can be a bit heavy. I definitely still like the main characters, but the assorted antagonistic characters are frustrating (intentionally so, I am sure). Other than those, I managed to find an ebook copy of a book called Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner. I remember reading that one back in 3rd grade, and I remembered liking it. It definitely took less time to read than my 8-year-old self remembered, since I read it in probably half-an-hour to an hour (it’s like 90 pages with relatively large font). Still I enjoyed reading it again… Kind of like reuniting with an old friend. I can’t say it was my favorite book from that time, but it was certainly one that left an impression on me.
As for this week, I plan to make progress with Book 9. I don’t think I will be finishing it before the month is out, but if I can finish it before NaNoWriMo starts in November, I will be pleased with that. Especially if I can get the final arc of the series plotted while I’m working on the draft of Book 9. That should solidly get me into a good position for writing Book 10 for NaNo this year. Other than that, I’m planning to finish reading Prism Cloud, and I intend to read some more of The Serpent’s Shadow by Mercedes Lackey.
I believe that is everything for this update. Thanks for reading!
