Hello! Welcome to another week.
This week has been rather interesting for me. For starters, I managed to make progress on a few writing-related things. Additionally, I read a bit. I seem to alternate weeks of reading a lot and weeks of reading less. The pattern does seem to be working fairly well.
I did manage to finish typing up the handwritten portion of my NaNo 2012 side story. There is definitely a lot of promise in that draft. However, it was clear that several things had changed in the intervening years. At the very least, my writing style has evolved, and my understanding of the world/cultures/etc. have become a bit more refined. Whenever I start a full revision on the side story, it will certainly be a bit of a project.
Other than that, I have written a bit more of Book 9. I had a few spots where I had to remember where I was going with it (since I have had other tasks I’ve been focusing on lately), but the notes I had made for the current chapter definitely helped. I also solidified a few more things for the final arc of the series. There are still a few pieces I need to figure out, but like any good conclusion, the details take a bit of finesse to properly incorporate.
My reading this week largely consisted of finishing Jeff Wheeler’s Mirror Gate, and starting the sequel, Iron Garland. With this book, I am about halfway through The Harbinger Series. I am definitely still getting Dickensian (as in similar to the works of Charles Dickens) vibes from the series, and it has occurred to me that I’m possibly glad to have started reading his books with this series. He has several series with interconnecting worlds, and there are two other series set in the same world as the current series. (The recommended reading order is to read the other two series before this one). However, since the author describes this series as Dickensian, I’m led to believe the others are not Dickensian. The transition into this kind of setting seems like it would be a bit rough. It feels kind of like dropping into a darker setting as opposed to climbing out of the dark. Still, I suppose I will be able to better judge that when I get to the other series. That said, I am rather enjoying the current series, despite the way certain characters have been acting (for what it’s worth, we aren’t supposed to like those characters, but still…).
For the upcoming week, I plan to continue my progress in Book 9, and I plan to continue puzzling through the conclusion to the series. I very much think it will be spiffy, and I’m looking forward to getting the final pieces to fall into place. Beyond that, I will continue reading Iron Garland. I suspect I will probably move on to the fourth book in the series once I finish the current book. I’m also looking forward to continuing The Serpent’s Shadow by Mercedes Lackey. I definitely feel like her The Elemental Masters series will be rather enjoyable.
That seems to be about everything for this update. Thanks for reading!
