Update: Week of 13 Sep 2021

Hello! I hope this finds you well.

For anyone who would like to read my review of DragonCon this year, you can find it at My Experience at DragonCon 2021. I spent a good bit of time reading this past week, though I did get a little bit of writing done as well.

My writing work this week was mostly plotting the final arc of the series. Elements are definitely still coming together. Other than that, I’ve made some progress typing up the handwritten portion of my side story. I should be able to finish that in the next day or two. Once that task is finished, I will focus more on Book 9. I still plan to finish that one this month, if I can get enough other things organized.

As for reading, I finished Petrified, the first book in The Keeper Chronicles by Ben Meeks. I did enjoy seeing how he set up his werebeasts, particularly his wereotter, Obie. I feel like there is a lot of stuff in that world that has yet to be fleshed out, so I am intrigued to see where the rest of the series goes. So far, only the first couple books are out. I suspect I will pick up the second book at some point.

After finishing Petrified, I picked up a book called Storm Glass. I’m currently about halfway through the Mirror Gate, the sequel to Storm Glass. The series definitely has a steampunk vibe, and there is a fantasy element, though it sounds like most of the things that are considered magic are some form of technology that hasn’t been revealed yet. This series is also described as having a “Dickensian” vibe, and I definitely agree. It also appears to be the third series set in that world, but I didn’t find out about that until after I already started Mirror Gate. The final bit of reading from this past week is that I started reading The Serpent’s Shadow, book one of The Elemental Masters series by Mercedes Lackey. I haven’t gotten too far into that one, but it does seem interesting so far.

My plans this week include finishing typing up the last thousand words for the side story. I also plan to put a dent in the remaining words for Book 9. With regard to reading, I plan to finish Mirror Gate and The Serpent’s Shadow. Assuming I finish those, I’m not sure which direction I might go. I do have access to the sequels to both of those, so I might pick up one of those next.

I think that’s about all I have for this update. As always, thanks for reading!

~ Theresa
