Hello! I hope you all are doing well.
This week has been… different from what I originally expected. Apparently, after taking last week to finish Camp NaNoWriMo on a strong note, this week turned into a week for recuperation. That said, I get the feeling that was just what I needed.
I still have some of the first draft of Book 9 to finish, though I’m pleased with where I got it over the past month. For this week, my focus shifted a bit more toward some of the worldbuilding aspects that I know will be useful. Some of that involves solidifying things like leadership of assorted peoples… As such, part of what I did this week was to track down a side novel that runs pseudo-concurrently with Book 1. That side novel includes a great deal of developmental information for a couple of the races in my series, and it includes more of a glimpse into certain governmental entities than I have been able to introduce in the main series.
The biggest issue with tracking down the draft of that story is that part of it was handwritten in a notebook (which I found easily), and part of it was typed up in a document (which took significantly longer to track down). Conveniently, I had all of my assorted jump drives from the past couple decades, and after a bit of a hunt, I was able to locate the document in question: My NaNo novel from 2012. So, after copying the document to make sure I would know exactly where to find it in the future, I started typing up the handwritten portion. That has been most of my task for this week, though I still have several thousand words to type up.
As for reading, I managed to finish The Chaos Rises, book 6 of The Elemental Academy series by DK Holmberg. I will say that I am glad that we are getting to see significantly more elemental activity in this book. There is one more book in the series, which will probably be what I go after next. Other than that, I might see if I can track down some kind of plot summary or something for the series that comes after this one… maybe. In other news, I did find an omnibus of three trilogies that seem to heavily feature dragons. It seems to be called Torvald Dragon Riders by Ava Richardson. And since it is an omnibus, and Amazon’s “download a free sample” option seems to be a percentage of the item in question, the free sample includes the first two books, plus an extra chapter. I’ve started that one, I’m about six chapters in so far. If anyone wants to check it out, you can find it here. Some of the reviews did say that there are rather large time jumps between the trilogies, but I don’t think that would inherently be a bad thing. I figure I’ll read the first couple books and then make a decision about whether I want to pick up the rest.
So, for this week, I will be continuing my project of reuniting the pieces of my side novel. I’m hoping to put a fairly large dent in what I have left. I also plan to do some extra work with both drafting Book 9 and fleshing out some of the world elements I need to introduce later in this book. Beyond that, I plan to start the last elemental book, The Elements Bond. I’m hoping it will go fairly quickly. I’m not sure how much more I will get done this week since the last part of this week will involve visiting with family, but we will see.
I think that’s about all I’ve got for this update! Thanks for reading! If you would like to share about current projects you are working on or books you are reading, I would love to hear from you in the comments!
