Update: Week of 14 Jun 2021

Hello!

I hope you are having a fantastic week! My week has gone fairly well. I got a bit of writing done, and I got a bit of reading done. Can’t really complain too much.

My writing update for this week is mostly that I have been working on the first draft of Book 9. I still intend to finish it by the end of this month, although the timing on it might be need to be a bit flexible. At the very least, I know that I am making progress, and once I get past the somewhat uncertain section I’m currently in, things should fall into place rather nicely. I am also making some progress with regard to plotting the final arc of this series. There are still a lot of specifics that I don’t know, and probably won’t know until I start writing (or editing), but that kind of thing keeps my pantser side happy.

As far as reading goes, I did finish Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird last week, and I started reading Stephen King’s On Writing. I’m still fairly early in the latter book, but I do find the differences in what the two authors chose to share, and how they did so, rather interesting. I did also start reading Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes. Admittedly, I think that one came to mind because of a recent Jeopardy clue that mentioned tilting at windmills. In any case, I did discover fairly quick that his writing style does not lend itself toward being able to read while sufficiently tired. However, that revelation led me to the next awesome point, which is that Alexandre Dumas’ The Count of Monte Cristo is indeed perfect for anytime, including being tired. Oh! And, apparently what I’ve read the last couple times I picked up The Count of Monte Cristo, I’m fairly certain I read the abridged version (like 440 pages), and I found out that the one I’m currently reading comes in at over 1200 pages. That’s like 800 pages of The Count of Monte Cristo that I’ve never read before! Talk about a welcome surprise. (If y’all haven’t read either version, I definitely recommend it. It is a story that really has something for everyone.)

So, I think that’s about it for this update. Thanks for reading!
