Happy April, everyone!
So, given that Camp NaNoWriMo started last Thursday, most of this past week has gone toward either preparation for Camp NaNo or actually working on Camp NaNo. I am still working on the book I started last November, during NaNo proper. That said, I have been able to get a good bit of progress done on it since the start of Camp. I’m not quite caught up with where I should be for the projected “average words per day,” but the month is still early, and I should be able to get things rolling fairly soon. I’m excited to finish the current book and get started on the next book. This is the second arc (and second-to-last arc) of my current series, so it’s been kind of fun. It has a bit of a different feel from the previous arc, and I’ve been enjoying seeing a different side of my characters. Everyone has been developing nicely over the course of the series so far.
In other news, I also finished the book I was reading last week, Soulbound by Bethany Adams. I discovered that the Kindle version of the first four books of the series are available in an omnibus that is currently free on Amazon. If you would like to take a look, you can find them here. It has Elves and Sidhe, and while most of the first book takes place in the land of the Elves, given that the name of the series is “The Return of the Elves,” I get the feeling it won’t be too long before they end up back on Earth. The first book did go down rather smoothly for me, and I figure I will take a look at the others. There are definitely a few things that caught my attention either as a certain character reminding me of other characters I’ve seen, which is always spiffy. I also got a kick out of some elements being reminiscent of some of the things I have in the works, so that was fun. Kind of that whole “someone else is doing the same kind of thing, so I’m on a decent track with that… cool.”
All things considered. I’m reminded of the standard thing with writing research papers, where you need to choose a topic that is common enough that you can find references, but not so common that everything you could say has already been said. It’s a bit of a balancing act, and I find it interesting that that particular tidbit is one of the things that kind of transitioned with me from being part of academia to becoming a novelist.
I think that is about all I have for the time being, and I’m sure there will be plenty of writing going on this Camp NaNo. If anyone would like to add me as a writing buddy, you can find me as fantasy_writer42.
Thanks for reading!
