Update: Week of 20 Mar 2023

Hello, everyone! I hope y’all are doing well.

My week went fairly well. I’ve made some good progress with my writing and Camp NaNoWriMo preparations. On top of that, I’ve done a bit of reading and crafting. Overall, I am pleased with how things have gone.

Writing (And Camp NaNoWriMo)

Book 11 is coming along nicely. This week has been a combination of drafting the current section, plotting the upcoming section, and refining some of the characterization of assorted characters. That last part has mostly been with regard to earlier books, though it does tie in with some of the things that are happening where I am in Book 11. There are still quite a few things I’d like to get a better feel for as I’m writing, but I do suspect most of that will be something I handle during edits. If nothing else, that will give me a bit more time to let ideas percolate. Not to mention, it is entirely likely that I will figure out some things while I’m drafting Book 12 that will help me fill in some of those areas in Book 11. Speaking of Book 12, I have also been taking some time to refine some of the key points for that book, which should come in handy during Camp NaNo.

I have currently created a project for Camp NaNo for finishing Book 11 and starting Book 12, and I’m using my standard goal of 50,000 words for the month. Since Camp NaNo is more flexible with regard to the goal, that might change once I get a better handle on the month. For now, though, it seems like a good goal. I’m still hoping to make a good bit of progress with Book 11 between now and the start of April.

Reading

My reading for this week has mostly been a continuation of Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn series. I am working my way through Shadows of Self. My pace has slowed a bit compared to last week, but I am still enjoying the book. I am also liking that I am closer to getting caught up on all of the Cosmere books. If nothing else, catching up will give me a bit more flexibility when new things come out.

Art

Once again, this has been a light art week for me, though I am still trying to keep it in mind when I can. I did have a few unexpected things come up this week, so I haven’t been able to work on creating a schedule yet. Also, to be honest, a good bit of this week did go toward writing and crochet, so I definitely need to find good balance to make sure I can at least make a little progress toward my assorted goals.

Crafts

I mentioned in last week’s update that I have been working on crocheting Doomslug, from Brandon Sanderson’s Skyward series, and I was partly waiting for to get safety eyes before I could continue. Well, safety eyes have been acquired, and I am now mostly done with Doomslug. I need to crochet a little more and then add a few accents. Overall, I am rather pleased. For anyone who wishes to crochet your own Doomslug, there is a free Doomslug crochet pattern available as part of Brandon Sanderson’s “Year of Sanderson” goodies (you can find it the pattern here, just look under March and click the button that says “March Free Download”).

I still prefer knitting, overall, but I am glad that this attempt at learning to crochet appears to be successful.

Next Week…

This upcoming week, there are a few key things I would like to do. I’d like to continue drafting Book 11, finishing the current chapter and writing the next. Last week, I wanted to finish reading Shadows of Self, so I’d like to do that this week instead, if I can. I’d also like to finish Doomslug, since she is my first crochet pattern. Beyond those things, I’d like to try to incorporate some drawing practice, and continue my preparations for Camp NaNo in about a week-and-a-half.

Also, Camp NaNoWriMo is coming up in April. Feel free to add me as a writing buddy on the NaNoWriMo website. My name on the site is Theresa Seanchai, and you can find my profile here.

I think that’s everything for this update. Thanks for reading!

~ Theresa
