Greetings at the end of another month! I hope y’all are doing well.
My week went fairly well, though it didn’t exactly go as planned. I did manage to make a bit of progress with writing and reading. I even did a little bit of painting, and I’ve continued working to learn more Irish (currently this is day twenty-seven out of the “100 day challenge” I started earlier this month). Other than that, I spent some time doing some unexpected updates on my website, which took a little more time than I would have liked. That said, I think it’s now working better.
This week included some good progress toward the first draft of Book 11. I still have a good bit to go, but I am definitely excited for some of the stuff I have coming up. I’m hoping to get a good bit of writing in this week before I leave for DragonCon, but I’ll have to see how that goes. In addition to drafting, I’ve also spent some time pondering the upcoming stuff on the outline/timeline and trying to flesh out some of the interactions that I know will be happening with some characters who haven’t really had much screen time yet.
With regard to reading this week, I continued Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere. I am enjoying what I’ve read so far. I also started reading a Harry Potter parody fanfiction that I heard about this week. It’s by Sarah1281, and it’s called “Oh God Not Again!” Essentially, a few years after the end of the last book, Harry gets sent back in time to be his eleven-year-old self, with all the memories of his twenty-three-year-old self. He decides to do a combination of causing chaos and smoothing over certain relationships, all while providing sarcastic commentary on the wizarding community at large. I’m only about a third of the way through (it’s about 160,000 words), but I am definitely getting a kick out of it. It seems to be available on quite a few fanfiction platforms, so if you are looking for a funny read, you might want to check it out.
Progress toward my “100 Day Gaeilge Challenge” has included progressing through lessons on Duolingo. I’ve been trying to do at least one new lesson per day, as well as some additional lessons to brush up the Irish I’ve learned previously.
I mentioned in last week’s update that I had started doing 30-minute paintings as a way to build up my skills. I did manage to do a couple more digital paintings this week. The theme for this week was animals again because that fit my mood at the time. I still have a bit of work I’d like to do with developing brushes and such to get the effects I want, but overall I’m pleased with how things are going so far.
For this upcoming week, I’ve got a few things planned. I’d like to continue drafting Book 11, and reading Neverwhere, as well as the fanfic “Oh God Not Again!” Other than those, I plan to continue learning Irish. I’m not sure what the week will hold beyond that. I know I will be packing for (and going to) DragonCon, and I’m fairly certain DragonCon will be fantastic, as usual. However, that will be taking a good portion of the week, so time for other things will be limited. It should all be fun, though.
That seems to be everything for this update! As always, thanks for reading!
